We left Milwaukee at 8pm and spent the night in San Francisco at Abigail’s. On Friday we spent a lot of time with Kelly and Jake, haunting deserted malls and respectable hillside neighborhoods, before we came back to hang with Abigail for a while before she took us to the airport. We flew Air New Zealand, which turns out to be really nice as airlines go. Their food was decent and came with free wine (!) and the staff were all very very nice and helpful, plus they don’t charge for the first checked bag. Success. Also this was the first time I have ever managed to sleep on a plane, which I think helped a lot for the next day. Simon sat next to a nice, slightly bovine Midwestern-looking girl who stressed over the safety announcements and the customs form, and whose Tetris play, Simon tells me, was an abomination. Not a bad flight considering it was 13 hours of my life I’ll never get back.
